Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC) proudly announces the coming performance, “Still, Not Still,” a groundbreaking performance by the multi-disciplinary theatre-maker and choreographer, Ivanhoe Lam. This production will take place from 26 to 28 April, featuring five performances at SHOWCASE. 

Still, Not Still ponders the sampan, a traditional fishing boat, delving into questions of balance amid flux and the essence of home and community. Featuring three performers, Gigi Yang, Han Mei, and Wei Wei Lam, who travelled far to settle in this land in search of home. Together with eight young dancers from School of Dance, the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts they paint a vivid portrait of people, home, and transformation. Bringing together a multicultural team of artists from diverse fields, this performance seamlessly blends physical theatre with Chinese folk dance, poetry, electronic music, and video.

This production marks the last performance of the serialized arts programme presented by HKADC celebrating the opening of its Wong Chuk Hang premises. Lam, renowned for his innovative works in unconventional theatre settings, will utilise the new venue, SHOWCASE, as a canvas for his artistic exploration offering a mesmerizing experience for the audience. The three leading performers, Gigi Yang, Han Mei, and Wei Wei Lam, come from diverse backgrounds, have traversed through life, moved to Hong Kong from Chongqing, Shaanxi and Malaysia respectively, and established their unique identities. Lam’s choreography beautifully weaves together their personal journeys, creating a dialogue of embracing adventure and navigating uncertainties.

Still, Not Still transcends traditional setting and boundaries. Ivanhoe Lam’s innovative choreography and thoughtful exploration of the art forms will leave audiences spellbound, contemplating the delicate balance between stillness and motion in the ever-changing landscape of life.
