Over the years, Hong Kong cinema has produced a great number of visionary fantasy films, many of which are a mixture of wild inventiveness, bold special effects, and creative genre-blending. To celebrate this rich and imaginative legacy, Fantasies in Reality: A Cinematic Journey presents 12 Hong Kong fantasy classics from the 1950s to the post-2000s.

The journey kicks off with the world premiere of the opening film, the New Wave classic The Spooky Bunch (1980) (4K Digitally Restored Version), an outrageous and comedic mix of traditional Cantonese opera culture and local supernatural folk legend. This restoration strives to recreate the audiovisual quality of its original theatrical release, bringing back the former brilliance of a film that is largely set at night.
