EVENT DESCRIPTION
Alan Kwan, a critically acclaimed guitarist and composer, is known for his sophisticated balance of modern jazz, contemporary classical, and world music. A consistent presence on the international stage, he is equally dedicated to education, bridging the gap between performance and legacy-building.
Joining him is Eugene Pao, the foundational figure of Hong Kong jazz. Since the 1980s, Eugene has collaborated with global masters like Michael Brecker and Jack DeJohnette, establishing the city’s jazz guitar identity and consistently mentoring the next generation of players.
The guitar duo is a uniquely intimate format. Stripped of a rhythm section, the two musicians must intuitively navigate melody, harmony, and space to build the music’s flow. This performance brings together two generations of Hong Kong jazz, using a curated repertoire and spontaneous improvisation to showcase the infinite possibilities of the guitar.
