Inspiration can blossom anywhere. Anna Clyne Within Her Arms turned a memory of her mother into music of timeless beauty. Dvořák saw a train entering a station: the melody that popped into his head grew into one of the stormiest and most powerful symphonies of the 19^th century which Jaap van Zweden loves. And Rachmaninov took a scrap of a tune by Paganini and spun it into pure gold. Dazzling, playful, and deliriously romantic, the Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini is still a matchless showpiece for a truly great pianist – so it’s perfect for our soloist Avan Yu.

The concert runs approximately 1.5 hours with an intermission.

The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HK Phil) is one of the leading orchestras in Asia. The annual schedule focuses on symphonic repertoire, with conductors and soloists from all over the world.
