This April, Hong Kong continues to offer a profusion of art and cultural happenings, from the new festival Freespace Dance, the major exhibition Cartier and Women at Hong Kong Palace Museum, to Tai Kwun Book Fair BOOKED, the interactive exhibition Virtually Versailles launching the French May Arts Festival 2023, as well as musical recitals, dance and theatre performances.
SELECTION OF EVENTS
The four-week edition of this new dance festival celebrates the boundary-breaking work of women in dance-making. Showcasing work by artists of different generations and cultures, and spotlighting the inspired inventiveness and versatility of contemporary choreography.

This is the first major exhibition on the unique role and influence of women in Cartier’s history. Featuring about 300 stunning treasures created by Cartier, the exhibition showcases precious jewellery, timepieces, objects, accessories and archival records from the 19th century to the present day.

DOUBLE ACTS: HKS RECITAL SERIES: RAPHAËL SÉVÈRE & ADRIEN LA MARCA
French artists Raphaël Sévère and Adrien La Marca will be taking the audience on a captivating musical journey alongside pianist Colleen Lee, playing a wonderful selection of chamber works by Mozart, Schumann, Poulenc and more.

Relive the magic of Versailles in this official touring exhibition, combining heritage and digital. Through this interactive exhibition, you can now step foot into the famed Hall of Mirrors, the French gardens and even catch a glimpse of Marie-Antoinette’s bedchamber.
19 April – 9 July – Hong Kong Heritage Museum
Hong Kong Dance Company relives fragments of earlier artistic endeavours, crafting a tuneful poem song in the form of dance. Accompanying the dance with soaring new orchestral works, Hong Kong’s up-and-coming In-heritage Philharmonic spins a sweeping panorama of emotion and entanglement.
21 – 23 April – Hong Kong Jockey Club Amphitheatre
Local playwright Chan Kwan Yee and director Yan Pat To joined hands to chronicle the century-old ghosts that lingered in Wan Chai. A home for the living becomes a tomb for the deceased. A narrative stage traversing time and space will be set at Tai Kwun, setting forth a story about a Hong Kong woman who stayed and a tale of bygone years.

BOOKED: HONG KONG ART BOOK FAIR 2023
Tai Kwun Contemporary’s Book Fair is returning for its fifth edition, with local, regional, and international exhibitors joining in person. This latest edition also launches “Sounds Like Print”, a project that explores the intersection of “sound” and “print”.

PHYLLIDA BARLOW: UNTITLED: FOLLY; BAUBLES
This is a larger-than-life masterpiece which enthralled visitors with its unique blend of whimsy and grandeur. K11 MUSEA brought this Phyllida Barlow’s work to celebrate the life and great talent of the late British artist during its annual flagship art programme Art Karnival.
