SYMPHONY OF NEW WORLDS – BREAKDANCE SYMPHONIC

Conductor Zahia Ziouani will lead France’s Divertimento Orchestra and the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong, performing classical dance masterpieces from Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America. Choreographer Mourad Merzouki and his Compagnie Käfig will unleash a medley of movement, fusing hip hop, breakdance, martial arts and contemporary dance into a breathtaking spectacle.

LUMINATION OF THE FORGOTTEN

Theatre du Pif Co-Artistic Director Bonni Chan joins hands with HKRep Artistic Director Poon Wai Sum in remaking five Hong Kong drama award-winning plays comprising the Insect Series. Lumination of the Forgotten depicts the 1990s as a fast-as-lightning centrifuge where lives collided in a tumultuous whirl, some sinking to the bottom, others staying afloat.

In this workshop, choreographer Christian Rizzo will attempt to answer the question on how the image of the body transforms from stage to screen. He will use a setup of screens and cameras to create a two-fold danced fiction both on stage and on screen. During the open studio performance, the audience will discover a live-filmed dance piece with a simultaneous choreographic proposal.

PART TO PART (hidden life of forms)

Choreographer Ola Maciejewska returns this year to develop a collaborative work with students of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. Drawing on her body of work, the artist will lead participants in the exploration of the tension between dance and sculpture. Together, they will choreograph a piece that will be shown during an open studio performance.
