Hong Kong Art Month is coming to an end, but do not fear that your cultural journey will stop here! The month of April is blooming with numerous happenings, enough to quench your thirst for art and culture.
We have selected diverse events that will please photography lovers, jazz and classical music aficionados, as well as an homage to Andy Warhol, an enchanted art installation and a few exhibitions dedicated to Hong Kong and Chinese artists.
SELECTION OF EVENTS
NOIR & BLANC: A STORY OF PHOTOGRAPHY
The exhibition is co-presented by M+ and the French May Arts Festival, in collaboration with the Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF). Marking M+ first exhibition dedicated to photography, it includes more than 250 significant photographs from BnF’s world-renowned collection of photography, complemented by over thirty works drawn from the M+ Collections, examining black-and-white photography.

BEYOND THE SINGULARITY
This pioneering exhibition explores the profound impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on human existence and artistic expression, constructing a journey through dynamic landscapes and dialogue to probe its ever-evolving potentiality. Participating artists include Kurt Chan Yuk-keung, Chow Yiu-fai, Chui Pui-chee, Mak2, So Hing-keung, Phoebe Wong, Stephen Wong Chun-hei, David Chan & Kingston Lo, Frog King & Frog Queen, and Virtue Village.

WANG KEPING
Coinciding with the French May Arts Festival and the 60-year-celebration of France and China’s cultural collaboration, the exhibition features a selection of Wang Keping’s most significant works, celebrating more than 45 years of making sculpture. Recognised internationally, Keping is one of the founders of China’s first contemporary art movements, The Stars.

JAZZ FOR KIDS: HOT CLUB OF SAN FRANCISCO
Originating in 1930s Paris, gypsy jazz, also known as Hot Club Jazz, is characterised by its fast swing rhythms and exhilarating solos. One of the world’s most renowned Gypsy Jazz groups, the Hot Club of San Francisco is bringing their toe-tapping music to a concert that is perfect for children and families.

ARTISTREE SELECTS: ENCHANTED FOREST
This captivating and mesmerising exhibition combining textiles, lighting and installation arts showcases the remarkable talent and creativity of Portuguese visual artist Joana Vasconcelos. This is one of the highlighted programmes of Swire Properties Arts Month 2024.

ANDY WARHOL’S LONG SHADOW
The exhibition considers Warhol’s ongoing cultural impact by juxtaposing key paintings, photographs and films by the artist with works by some of his contemporaries and successors, including Jean- Michel Basquiat, Urs Fischer, Nan Goldin, Douglas Gordon, Takashi Murakami, Richard Prince or Zeng Fanzhi.

HK PHIL 50 – SYMPHONIC REUNION
To celebrate the HK Phil’s 50th anniversary, join on a nostalgic journey through Cantopop classics and TV theme songs, featuring a stellar lineup of Cantopop legends and rising stars, conducted by Resident Conductor Lio Kuokman. Don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime reunion performance featuring Elisa Chan, Sandy Lam, Anthony Lun and Frances Yip, alongside talented new forces Jay Fung, Cloud Wan and Oscar Tao.

YAN PEI MING: KUNG HEI FAT CHOI
This is Yan Pei Ming’s second solo exhibition in Hong Kong, this time featuring statues of the Buddha. Best known for his strikingly detailed portraits of iconic figures depicted in combinations of white and grey, red or blue, this is the artist’s s most spiritual body of work to date.
