The Transfiguration of Abstractness in Painting

29 June - 2:30 pm - 5:00 pm

Free

EVENT DESCRIPTION

From realism to abstraction, modern painting in the 20th century is characterized by a number of groundbreaking art movements, culminating in a diversity of contemporary practices that continue to challenge the boundaries of two-dimensionality and even three-dimensionality, as well as experiment with multimedia and installation art. Consequently, more professional and diversified curatorial approaches are required to respond to these rapidly transforming creative expressions.

In this lecture, Dr. Jiang Jun, an art critic and curator, will delve into the evolution of abstract art by tracing its historical and philosophical origins. Through the comparison between Eastern and Western perspectives, he will examine the multidimensional concept of abstractness in contemporary art, which will then lead to the question of the relationship between abstraction and contemporary life.

Following the lecture, the panel discussion will go deeper into contemporary curatorial practices and explore the various challenges faced by curators today, particularly those on the path to the international stage.
