Tao Ye Workshop Performance

20 June - 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm

EVENT DESCRIPTION

For the first time, Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels is inviting Tao Ye and his dancers to develop a collaborative piece over two weeks with students at SWEAT – Hong Kong International Dance Workshop Festival and Conference 2025, in collaboration with the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.

Based on the study of a body in movement, the artist invites participants to explore a system of circular choreography. The goal is to discover the endless possibilities of instantaneous change according to the law of inertia, present in Eastern artistic explorations of physicality. At the end of the program, on June 20, a performance of the work created in the studio will be presented to the public.

ABOUT THE ARTIST / ORGANISER

Tao Ye is a graduate of the Chongqing Dance School in China. After dancing with the Shanghai Army Song & Dance Ensemble and the Shanghai Jin Xing Dance Theater, he later moved to Beijing to join the Beijing Modern Dance Company (BMDC).

In 2008, at the age of 23, Tao Ye founded the TAO Dance Theater with
Duan Ni and Wang Hao. Inspired by Eastern thought, he developed the “Circular Movement System” in combination with his own choreographic style. His pieces are marked by minimalism, repetition and restriction.
