Spring is Blooming in Tai Kwun with Alexandre Benjamin Navet by Van Cleef & Arpels
21 March - 6 April
FreeEVENT DESCRIPTION
Van Cleef & Arpels celebrates the spirit of spring with a transformation of Tai Kwun’s Parade Ground into a joyful playground. Created in collaboration with French artist Alexandre Benjamin Navet, a creative partner of Van Cleef & Arpels since 2020, the season of rebirth is given a fresh narrative in an unexpected world of adventure that blooms in Central Hong Kong from the first day of Spring.
Coinciding with Hong Kong’s Art Month, the Maison’s immersive installation brings to the city abundant colour.
The beauty of nature and the grace of flora have played a significant role in the history of Van Cleef & Arpels since its founding in 1906. With extensive archival imagery to explore, Navet has embedded himself in the Maison’s heritage in his search for inspiration, a journey energised by a mutual passion for bringing dream worlds into being. In this artistic partnership, Tai Kwun in Central Hong Kong has been given over as an expansive canvas to Navet, upon which the spontaneity and vibrancy of nature spills over into dreamt up floral forms that carry visitors through an exuberant playground.
Navet’s distinctive style is a celebration of the act of drawing, itself the genesis of creative expression and craftmanship. His famed illustrations, vivid in colour and form, will be transformed into an immersive installation paying tribute to nature. Whether it be walking through whimsical flower arches, perching on a swing, taking a rest in a pergola, or playing with a fountain, visitors will be invigorated by spring’s perennial renewal.
A nexus for cultural heritage and contemporary art in Hong Kong, Tai Kwun provides an ideal backdrop for Navet’s vision, which finds its own balance in an utterly distinctive blend of imagined utopia and fine-tuned aesthetic. Van Cleef & Arpels’ and Tai Kwun are both motivated by a mutual desire to inspire the local community through the energy and magnetism of creativity. Upon entering Tai Kwun, visitors will find themselves immersed in an unexpected world where colour abounds, expanding Navet’s artworks beyond physical confines to offer a new perspective on their surroundings.
So that visitors can continue to celebrate the arrival of spring together with the Maison, children’s workshops for windmill making will be held during the event period (reservations required), as well as origami making stations for all, and scheduled ice cream give aways on weekends.
