EVENT DESCRIPTION
12-year-old Japanese young artist Rucu presents his first solo exhibition in Hong Kong, titled Buddha in Bloom, through his pure and unique perspective.
Having started copying Buddhist statues at the age of just four, Rucu reinterprets traditional Buddha figures with his innate childlike innocence and modern sensibility. He abandons the solemnity and sense of distance often associated with classical Buddha statues, instead breathing new life into them with soft, gentle lines and vibrant, bright colors.
Rucu shares: “The world is full of chaos. I hope to bring some peace through the heart of Buddha and bouquets of flowers — that is, love — and make people smile.”
To convey this message, all the Buddha figures in this exhibition feature gentle smiles, holding blooming lotuses in both hands to deliver pure love and peace.
Rucu also modernizes the images by placing the Buddha figures within vast starry skies and the universe, symbolizing that love and hope can transcend time and space — like a beam of light shining through the darkness, bringing strength and warmth to viewers.
In addition to the paintings, the exhibition will also launch a variety of merchandise, including the special Zukou co-created by Rucu with professional incense masters. This allows visitors not only to “see” his artworks, but also to experience the quiet and pure state of mind he has while painting through the subtle, soothing fragrance.
