Premiere Performances 20th Season: Stephen Hough: Beethoven, Schumann & More

17 November - 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

$280 – $880

EVENT DESCRIPTION

The legendary Sir Stephen Hough returns to the Premiere Performances’ 20th season stage with a brilliantly curated programme.

Hailed as a “keyboard colossus” (The Guardian), Hough is one of the most distinctive artists of his generation. Spanning a career of more than 40 years, his discography of over 70 albums has earned international acclaim, including eight Gramophone Awards, the Deutsche Schallplattenpreis, the Diapason d’Or, and more.

Hough’s programming is a testament to his adventurous self-expression, and this concert is no exception. The programme opens with a series of exquisite piano miniatures, moving on to Beethoven’s majestic “Waldstein” Sonata and Schumann’s vivid Carnaval. The musical feast concludes with Hough’s own bravura arrangements of songs from Mary Poppins. It is a night that promises immense depth, contrast, and brilliance.

Sir Stephen Hough was the first artist that we presented in City Hall Concert Hall in our 2008 “Great Performers” Series, and returned to immense acclaim in 2016 and 2018. His appearance in our 20th anniversary season brings a special sense of history and celebration to our specially curated season line-up.
