EVENT DESCRIPTION
The second edition of WestK FunFest will take place from 21 March to 27 April 2025. One of the Festival highlights is the world debut of Pollinator, a large-scale installation integrating performing arts and architecture, co-created by the renowned American artists Alex Schweder and Ward Shelley. The installation will be open to the public free of charge at Harbourside East Lawn, starting 21 March for five consecutive weeks.
Commissioned by WestK and co-presented by WestK Performing Arts and M+, the large-scale outdoor installation Pollinator is co-created by the renowned American artists Alex Schweder and Ward Shelley, explores the relationship between people and space in fascinating ways while examining how the environment shapes personal identity and social connections. Making their debut appearance in Hong Kong, the duo has invited a total of 18 local performing and visual artists from Hong Kong to join and stay at Pollinator, the temporary live residency interconnected by a giant wheel.
Participating artists will take ownership of their own structures, creating and hosting live performances together, share their works, such as music, dance, puppetry, dance, visual arts, flow arts and various multi-media practice, by either performing or interacting with visitors at scheduled times. Beyond Vision International, the Accessibility Partner for Pollinator, will create tactile guidebooks and organise access tours, enabling individuals with visual impairments to experience and appreciate the installation through multisensory means.
Pollinator will be open to the public for free for five consecutive weeks at Harbourside East Lawn in WestK’s Art Park until 21 April. Artists will occupy and create their works during 2pm to 9:30pm on Thursday and Friday (except 17 April), and 12nn to 9:30pm on Saturday, Sunday, and public holidays.
