Passages
EVENT DESCRIPTION
In 2023, Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels co-presents with French May Arts Festival Passages by Noé Soulier, at the venue partner PMQ, as part of a Dance Festival in Hong Kong.
Passages is a roaming project that explores the relationship between the movement of bodies and the spaces in which they evolve. By acting on imaginary objects, the performers make the multiple dimensions of the places they inhabit resonate.
Passages can be adapted to a wide variety of spaces: parks, museums, houses, churches… Whether it’s a vault supported by pillars, a long corridor or an immense lawn, the choreography is composed of modules designed to fit these different types of space. It can thus redeploy itself in a singular way according to the identity of each place. It requires neither stage, nor technique, nor musical equipment.
Following the performance Passages, the film Fragments will be shown at 4:50 pm at the venue partner PMQ, Qube.
The artists will be leading an exclusive workshop open to all on May 4th at 11 am at the venue partner PMQ, Courtyard & Marketplace.
ABOUT THE ARTIST / ORGANISER
French dancer and choreographer Noé Soulier was trained at CNSMD in Paris, Canada’s National Ballet School and P.A.R.T.S. in Brussels. He participated in the Pavillon artist-in-residence program at the Palais de Tokyo, and won first prize at the 2010 Danse Élargie competition, an event organized by Théâtre de la Ville and the Musée de la Danse. His work explores dance and choreography through a multitude of devices and environments. His productions Removing and Faits et Gestes, Second Quartet, created for the L.A. Dance Project and Les Vagues, stimulate bodily memory through movements directed at non-existent objects and events. He developed these same principles in his book Actions, Mouvements et Gestes, as well as his performance Mouvement sur Mouvement.
In the choreographed exhibition Performing Art, created at Centre Pompidou, museum professionals become the performers, executing careful and delicate movements to hang and install a selection of artwork from the collection of the Parisian institution. Noé Soulier has been head of the National Center for Contemporary Dance in Angers since 2020.
