New York-based Chinese composer Huang Ruo has handpicked four beloved folk songs, reimagining them into Folk Songs for Orchestra with his vibrant and inventive voice. His composition draws inspiration from a mix of Chinese ancient and folk music, Western avant-garde and experimental music, natural and processed sound, rock and jazz. Vasily Petrenko conducts the annual National Day Concert with Li-Wei Qin joining for Haydn’s enduring Cello Concerto, along with spring-inspired compositions by Delius and Stravinsky.

The concert runs approximately 1 hour 45 minutes with an intermission.

ABOUT THE ARTIST / ORGANISER

The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HK Phil) is one of the leading orchestras in Asia. The annual schedule focuses on symphonic repertoire, with conductors and soloists from all over the world. Yu Long is the orchestra’s Principal Guest Conductor, while Lio Kuokman is the Resident Conductor of the HK Phil.
