EVENT DESCRIPTION
Hong Kong-based artistic entity PROJECT21st presents #musicismore, a brand-new music experience that challenges traditional notions of music performance. From mid-May to July, the public will have the opportunity to participate in a series of performances and exhibitions that explore the diverse possibilities of music.
“Music doesn’t just exist in the format of concerts, or a gig” explained Charles Kwong, founder of PROJECT21st and co-curator of #musicismore. From ‘whale watching’ to bread making, #musicismore is going to bring the audience out of the concert hall and to rethink what a music experience can be.
#musicismore explores the nature of music as a happening, a phenomenon, a performing art that allows audiences to submerge in:
• Baker’s Lung – a performance-based exhibition about bread making, with live music performances by Canadian professional bakers and brass performers (29 June to 4 July)
• Made in Laterland – a performance-based sound installation with revived musical instruments that explores the relationships between live and recorded music by HK composer Charles Kwong and sound artist Jacklam Ho (5-13 July)
• Euphonia – an outdoor performance-based installation with a newly invented 3D-printed and up-cycled Euphonia Organ by Swiss/ Dutch artist Kaspar König (21–29 July)
The artists featured in the series all have a vision of going beyond the format of “concerts” in their creative practices, and these visions are realised in a very diverse spectrum of artistic ambition, which explores the infinite possibilities of music other than concert presentations.
To Charles, music can deliver a subject, leading audiences to explore a specific topic just like other art forms. Through these three unique music experiences, audiences will be expected to reflect on the topics shared by the artists. #musicismore aims to challenge the audience’s preconceptions of what music can be and encourage them to submerge in the art form, exploring the infinite possibilities that music holds.
