Hong Kong-born bassist Basso Chan, now forging his artistic path in the Netherlands, represents a new generation of jazz musicians who treat their instrument as a painter treats canvas—with nuance, patience, and profound emotional intelligence. A graduate of both The Education University of Hong Kong and the Royal Conservatoire The Hague, Chan embodies a rare synthesis of technical mastery and poetic sensibility.
His international trajectory—from the Hong Kong Jazz Marathon to Switzerland’s revered Langnau Jazz Nights, where his Juan Rodríguez Trio opened the 2025 edition—speaks to an artist whose musical language transcends borders.
For his return to Hong Kong at CODA Jazz Kissa, Chan forms a compelling trio with guitarist Michael Chan and drummer Almond Yeung. Their approach draws from the lyrical introspection of Thomas Morgan, the collaborative spirit of Bill Frisell, and the atmospheric depth of Jakob Bro.
