EVENT DESCRIPTION

After a year of preparation, the new site of Sun Museum in Sai Ying Pun is ready to be unveiled to the public.

Spanning two floors, the new site of Sun Museum covers a total area of 6,000 square feet. The first floor, measuring 3,600 square feet, serves as the exhibition hall and is divided into two wings. With a ceiling height of 3.5 metres, it allows versatile display of around 60 artworks, including art pieces of bigger sizes. The hall also serves as the venue for seminars and talks. Located on the ground floor are the museum office, a café, and a gift shop. The specially designed café at the new site will host workshops and salon events, fostering artistic exchange and creative development. The gift shop will curate affordable quality artworks for the public, aiming to encourage art collection and infuse art into daily life. A library will be launched soon, providing a selection of art books for research and educational purposes.

The first exhibition at the new site, “Hong Kong Paintings in Sai Yuen Lane” runs from October 4, 2024, to February 16, 2025, featuring 132 works by 92 Hong Kong artists. The exhibition, showcasing a rich variety of recent works from the past two years, is divided into two phases. The first phase, from October 4 to December 8, 2024, features 66 paintings by 44 artists, including artwork in ink, acrylic, charcoal, and mineral pigments. The second phase, from December 19, 2024, to February 16, 2025, will showcase 66 paintings by 48 artists, including oil, watercolour, pastel, and marker pen paintings. The exhibition demonstrates the diversity and cultural traditions of the Hong Kong art scene, providing insight into the strength of contemporary artists and the development of art in Hong Kong.
