EVENT DESCRIPTION
Step into the World of a Global Cultural Icon and Discover the Untold Stories of Bohemian Rhapsody, Don’t Stop Me Now and Somebody to Love.
Some twenty highlights from the collection of Freddie Mercury will be showcased for the first time ever in Asia, before they are offered across six dedicated auctions taking place at Sotheby’s London in September 2023.
• Freddie Mercury’s iconic stage Crown thought to be loosely modelled on the coronation crown of St. Edward. Indelibly linked to Mercury, this was worn for the finalé rendition of “God Save The Queen” during the band’s last performance at Knebworth Park in front of a crowd of over 120,000 on 9 August 1986. Estimate £30,000–40,000
• Revealing untold insights into other possible directions the song could have taken, the handwritten working drafts for Bohemian Rhapsody present all sections of this most ambitious Queen hit across 15 pages. Estimate £800,000-1.2 million
• A pair of Adidas high top sneakers, similar to the pair Freddie Mercury wore for Queen’s iconic Live Aid concert in July, 1985. Mercury loved the freedom of movement and comfort these boots brought him during performances and used them for the rest of his stage career. Estimate £3,000–5,000
• All coming for auction directly from Mercury’s personal collection which has been carefully looked after in his beloved London home, Garden Lodge, the works take audience on a journey of discovery of Mercury as a creative artist.
• A portion of the proceeds of the sale will be donated to both the Mercury Phoenix Trust and to the foundation of one of Freddie’s greatest friends, the Elton John Aids Foundation.
