EVENT DESCRIPTION

Two Irish music gems come together in this grand concert to kick start CCOHK’s 2025-2026 season. Barry Douglas, the internationally acclaimed Irish pianist and gold medallist of the 1986 International Tchaikovsky Piano Competition, performs the emperor of Beethoven’s piano concertos under the baton of Vahan Mardirossian. CCOHK completes the evening with a symphony of boundless attractive melody, conceived on a jolting car ride through the Irish countryside by Sir Arthur Sullivan, composer of Gilbert and Sullivan fame.

ABOUT THE ARTIST / ORGANISER

Barry Douglas has established a major international career since winning the Gold Medal at the 1986 Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition in Moscow. As Artistic Director of Camerata Ireland and the Clandeboye Festival, he continues to celebrate his Irish heritage whilst also maintaining a busy international touring schedule. In 2002 Barry Douglas received the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his services to music, and in 2021, was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire.
