Art Next Expo 2021

The 4th Edition of Art Next Expo and Art Next Artist Awards will be held from 8th to 10th October 2021 at Lanson Place Causeway Bay, Hong Kong, where the works of more than 70 artists will be presented in three series: “Art Next Artists Series”, “Diversity Series” and “Special Project Series: Next +”.

Established in 2015, Art Next Expo aims to provide emerging artists with a platform to connect directly with collectors, galleries and art institutions. “Although the pandemic has impacted global economy, the international art market continues to show strong signs of recovery, and we are particularly excited to see that more and more Hong Kong collectors are interested in the works of local artists,” said Ms. Judy Inn, Director of Art Next. “We believe art lovers will value the opportunity to meet the artists in person at the Expo.”

Art Next Artists Series: Artists are selected by the first-round panelists, including renowned Hong Kong artist Mr. CHUNG Tai Fu; Professor HO Siu Kee, Associate Professor of Fine Arts at The Chinese University of Hong Kong; and, Hong Kong contemporary Chinese ink artist Mr. KOON Wai Bong. Because of the current travel restrictions, this year most artists are Hong Kong- based artists, including artists from United States and India who have been living in Hong Kong for a long time. This series of works are of different styles with a wide array of mediums, including oil, acrylics, ink, watercolor, sculpture, photography and mixed media. Artists in this series will compete for “Art Next Artist Awards”, which will be selected by a panel of artists and art scholars, including art collector and artist Mrs. Cecilia CHEUNG; renowned Chinese ink painter Mr. HE Baili; Professor TANG Hoi Chiu, Adjunct Professor of Academy of Visual Arts at The Baptist University of Hong Kong; and, renowned artist and curator Dr. TANG Ying Chi. Special Award recipient will be sponsored a 3-month residence programme by Taipei Artist Village.

Diversity Series: Jun Enterprise, an organization dedicated to promoting embroidery art, will present the latest works by six embroidery artists. Taiwanese artist HUANG Wan Ling, sponsored by Taipei Artist Village, will showcase her works that express contemporary aesthetics through traditional ink. Abstract geometric works by another Taiwan artist, PAI Tsung-te, will also be showcased. In addition, “Cheongsam Connect”, a non-profit cultural group that is dedicated to reviving and fostering the appreciation of cheongsam, will present a series of works that integrate the traditional costume with contemporary art. Michael LAM, an eminent artist whose previous works included a pair of “rainbow lions” for HSBC, will demonstrate leather painting art on-site.

Special Project Series “Next +: Co-curated by artists Angel HUI Hoi Kiu and KC WONG, a thematic exhibition “Next Mart” will showcase over 80 pieces of pop art and trendy art toys from 11 artists, including paintings, art toys, sculptures and lifestyle goods in a fun environment. Graduates from the Academy of Visual Arts of the Hong Kong Baptist University and the School of Creative Media at City University of Hong Kong will showcase innovative multimedia and immersive works. A dynamic UFO-shaped installation will be presented by young multimedia artist Kyle LUI Koon To. Art Next has also invited a select group of celebrated local artists such as CHUI Pui Chee, Aries WU Chun Yin, CHAN Sai Lok and sculpture artist CHUNG Wai Lun, to showcase their latest works.


Established in 2015, Art Next Expo aims to provide a platform for the emerging artists to connect to art collectors, galleries and arts institutions.
“Art Next Artist Awards”, under a stringent and professional two-round judging system, are also set up to recognize and support the work of some of the most promising artists at the Expo.
