Sunwook Kim came to international recognition when he won the prestigious Leeds International Piano Competition in 2006, aged just 18, becoming the competition’s youngest winner for 40 years, as well as its first Asian winner. He currently serves as Music Director of the Gyeonggi Philharmonic Orchestra and has performed with leading orchestras including the Berlin Philharmonic, London Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Chicago Symphony, and Los Angeles Philharmonic, collaborating with conductors such as Jakub Hrůša, Myung-Whun Chung, Daniel Harding, and Paavo Järvi. He has given recitals at prestigious venues including Queen Elizabeth Hall and Wigmore Hall in London, Salle Pleyel in Paris, and Beethoven-Haus Bonn, and has appeared at the BBC Proms, Beethovenfest Bonn, Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, and La Roque d’Anthéron.
