Fournier’s visionary, futuristic perspective and Cupido’s meditative contemplation converge in this exhibition, bringing together two internationally acclaimed artists whose works are represented in the world’s leading museums and at Galerie Paris 1839 from 1st of May, following their success at Art Central Hong Kong in March 2026.
ABOUT THE ARTIST / ORGANISER
French artist Vincent Fournier brings Flora Incognita, his new uchronia, a speculative herbarium dedicated to possible forms of vegetation, at the crossroads of art and botany. Since the early 2000s, Vincent Fournier has been building a coherent universe shaped by his fascination with scientific imaginaries and modernist utopias. His approach borrows as much from documentary codes as from the language of fiction. In the spirit of the uchronia he particularly cherishes, he starts from the real to imagine alternative versions of it. Vincent Fournier's artworks are increasingly regarded as modern classics: they feature in major collections including the MET, the Centre Pompidou, the JP Morgan Chase Art Collection, the Collection Garance Primat, the MAST Foundation, the Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature, Domaine de Chaumont-Sur-Loire, and have been exhibited at institutions such as the Mori Art Museum (Tokyo) and the Triennale di Milano.Paul Cupido is a Dutch fine art photographer deeply influenced by Japanese culture. He studied at the Tokyo Institute of Photography and at Het Oog in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The series we will be exhibiting express his ongoing quest. They are pure poetry, suspended in time; they invite the viewer to pause in contemplation and to explore joy and harmony. Paul Cupido's work is shaped by an exploration of Mu (無), a key concept in Japanese Zen Buddhism, originating from the Chinese wu and shaped by both Taoist and Buddhist thought. His work is internationally recognised and has been exhibited at Paris Photo every year since 2019. He has also exhibited at and/or has been collected by Rencontres d'Arles (2024, 2023), the Singer Museum, Leica Gallery, Photo London, the InCadaquès Photo Festival (Cadaquès, Spain), Coming to Light (Zurich, Switzerland), The Photography Show (New York, USA), as well as Guerlain and Saint Laurent, among others. He is also the author of numerous books.
