Eternal Connections: Metalworks Unveiled by Master Liu Wing Sheung and Fanson Lam

Crafts on Peel is known for its commitment to reviving, reinterpreting and perpetuating traditional crafts in a modern artistic context. “Eternal Connections” is a testament to this mission, as it highlights the profound bond between Master Liu Wing Sheung, a local craftsman who has over 60 years of experience in metal casting, and his apprentice, Fanson Lam, an aspiring sculptor, as well as the seamless integration of artistry and heritage. In partnership with Vacheron Constantin, Crafts on Peel has specially curated this Exhibition to demonstrate extraordinary local artisanship through crafts from both featured artisans as well as exclusive workshops hosted by Fanson Lam.

This is Vacheron Constantin’s first art and cultural program piloting in Hong Kong to support local artisans and traditional crafts. As a legendary watchmaking manufacture, the Maison is known for its pursuit of excellence in craftsmanship, innovation and precision. The synergy created by this partnership brings together the shared spirit of meticulous artistry across different disciplines, celebrating each other’s quest for timeless artistic perfection.

While exciting new artworks created by Master Liu Wing Sheung, a revered casting master, and his apprentice, Fanson Lam, an aspiring sculptor, will be on display for the first time, the joint-exhibition will take guests on a poetic journey to highlight the two artisans across generations, their profound bonding and their inspiring artisanship, with a nod to Hong Kong’s local cultural lineage in tea, flora and fragrance through the realm of metalworks, where imagination and materialization intertwine.

Master Liu’s expertise in casting, honed over decades, is reflected in each meticulously crafted piece. Through the collaboration with Fanson Lam, a symbiotic relationship emerges, reflecting the interdependence between the casting master and the sculptor. Visitors will have the opportunity to witness the delicate dance between creativity and craftsmanship as Fanson Lam’s artistic visions find their realization through the heritage craft of casting. Each sculpture is born from the intricate details etched into the mold, a canvas upon which Master Liu breathes life into the sculptor’s dreams. The result is a collection of metalworks that embody the essence of their shared craftsmanship that leave a lasting impression on all who experience them.
