Your Cultural Journey to WestK
Spanning forty hectares of reclaimed land, The West Kowloon Cultural District, also known as WestK, is a global cultural hub rooted in Hong Kong, blending art, education and open green space.
The district is home of world-class facilities for visual, multimedia and performing arts, complemented by outdoor areas that offer breathtaking views of Hong Kong’s iconic skyline and Victoria Harbour.
Significant venues consist of the M+ Museum for modern and contemporary visual culture, the Hong Kong Palace Museum for Chinese art and culture, the Freespace Centre for contemporary performing arts, and the Xiqu Centre for Chinese opera.
The WestK Performing Arts Centre is currently being built and will feature a Grand Theatre with 1,450 seats, a Medium Theatre accommodating 600 seats, and a Studio Theatre with 270 seats. Additionally, the complex will offer a variety of rehearsal spaces and a Resident Company Centre designed to be a hub for exploration, development, and collaboration among dance companies and artists in Hong Kong.
Beginning on 15 November 2025, the brand-new WestK Ferry will provide a direct and picturesque route between the District and Hong Kong Island, traversing the beautiful Victoria Harbour. The museum is Asia’s first global museum of contemporary visual culture. It officially opened on 12 November 2021. It is dedicated to collecting, exhibiting, and interpreting visual art, design and architecture, moving image, and Hong Kong visual culture of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. The venue covers an impressive 65,000 square meters and includes thirty-three galleries, a Learning Hub, a Moving Image Centre, a Research Centre, and a Roof Garden, along with various spaces for events and programming.
Robert Rauschenberg and Asia

The exhibition showcases a curated selection of significant works by Rauschenberg, created during his time in Asia. Additionally, it highlights the history and impact of his Asian Rauschenberg Overseas Culture Interchange (ROCI) initiatives, which featured exhibitions in cities like Beijing (1985), Lhasa (1985), Tokyo (1986), and Kuala Lumpur (1990), and examines their enduring influence on local artists. The display will include works by both Rauschenberg and Asian artists that engage in a dialogue with his practice, commemorating the centenary of the artist’s birth.
HONG KONG PALACE MUSEUM
Opened on 3 July 2022, the Hong Kong Palace Museum is a premier cultural institution dedicated to the study and celebration of Chinese art and culture. It seeks to foster dialogue among civilizations worldwide through international collaborations. This initiative is a joint effort between the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority and the Palace Museum in Beijing.
Ancient Egypt Unveiled: Treasures from Egyptian Museums

This grand exhibition traces the development of this fascinating culture over a period of 5,000 years, showcasing its political achievements, art, daily life, and religious practices during the peak of its accomplishments. It also introduces the latest archaeological discoveries from the Saqqara region near Cairo and explores ancient Egypt’s exchanges with other world civilisations. Featuring 250 precious artefacts from seven major Egyptian museums and the Saqqara archaeological site, the exhibition is organised into four thematic sections: “The Land of Pharaohs”, “The World of Tutankhamun”, “The Secrets of Saqqara”, and “Ancient Egypt and the World”.
FREESPACE
Nestled in the heart of Art Park, Freespace offers a vibrant array of multi-genre performances and events. From captivating dramas and contemporary dance to lively music festivals and immersive theatre experiences, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
Freespace Dance 2025

The highly anticipated Freespace Dance is making its return for the third year. Under the theme “Speculative Futures: Asia-Pacific Perspectives”, the festival unites artists from Hong Kong and other Asia Pacific countries such as Japan, Australia and Korea. Together, they will dive into the future of dance through innovative and interdisciplinary collaborations.
Situated on the eastern side of WestK, the Xiqu Centre is dedicated to the celebration of traditional Chinese theatre, featuring Cantonese opera and various regional forms of xiqu. It hosts the spacious Grand Theatre, the cozy Tea House Theatre, four professional rehearsal rooms, and a well-equipped lecture hall.

The acclaimed performers of the Shanghai Kunqu Opera Troupe return to the Xiqu Centre with three classic works – The Story of the Jade Hairpin, a moving romantic saga, The Outburst of a Shrew, a humorous take on marriage, and The Daughter of the Horse-trader, a delightful story filled with intrigue and unexpected twists. With stellar performances from China Theatre Plum Blossom Award winners Li An, Shen Yili, and Luo Chenxue, this is a masterclass in traditional artistry delivered by a distinguished cast.
