For a good start of the year, we have selected eight cultural events not to be missed, from classical music concerts, contemporary art and photography exhibitions to immersive and multimedia experiences, as well as documentaries about art masterpieces.

DOUBLE ACTS – DOUBLE TRUMPET CONCERTO BY FAZIL SAY
Celebrated trumpeters Sergei Nakariakov and Gábor Boldoczki will play with Hong Kong Sinfonietta a recent composition made for them by Turkish composer Fazil Say for its Asian premiere.

The Sigg Prize 2023 Exhibition brings together works by six shortlisted artists of the biennial award recognising important artistic practices in Greater China: Jes Fan, Miao Ying, Wang Tuo, Xie Nanxing, Trevor Yeung, and Yu Ji.

The exhibition celebrates art and life, fantasy and reality, science and spirituality, showcasing the immersive video installation Painting with history in a room filled with people with funny names 3 by rising Thai artist Korakrit Arunanondcha.

BEARE’S PREMIERE MUSIC FESTIVAL 2024
The chamber music festival is back after four years, featuring an impressive lineup of renowned international artists in five extraordinary concerts, including the Miró Quartet, Irish tenor Robin Tritschler, and many other award-winning musicians.

This exhibition of British artist Mr Doodle and his “Obsessive Compulsive Doodling” invites art enthusiasts of all generations to embark on a captivating journey alongside Mr & Mrs Doodle as they traverse the vast reaches of space.

FALL IN LOVE WITH MASTERPIECES DOCUMENTARIES
This cinematic journey accompanies the exhibition Botticelli to Van Gogh: Masterpieces from the National Gallery, London. In six documentaries, you will discover the secrets of legendary artists such as Raphael, Van Gogh and Monet, as art historians unravel their creative processes, unique styles and little-known deeds.
13 January – 10 April – Hong Kong Palace Museum
Honouring the legacy of late photographer Sabine Weiss, the exhibition features a selection of twenty-three of Weiss’s iconic works, alongside some lesser-known gems, carefully curated to portray the breadth and depth of her talent.
6 January – 15 February – The Loft, Boogie Woogie Photography
This second exhibition of ARTS • TECH Exhibition 2.0 presented by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council examines the notions of illusion and reality through theatrical performances, encompassing a spectrum of sounds, performances, and scenography.
