Old Yau Ma Tei Police Station: a cinematic journey to Hong Kong’s action movies
Have you ever envisioned yourself as a leading character in one of Hong Kong’s legendary action films like The Killer (1989), Infernal Affairs (2002), or Cold War (2012)? Whether you’re a devoted cinephile or simply love movies, make your way to Yau Ma Tei for an unforgettable immersive experience that takes you behind the scenes of these classic police and crime dramas!
The Old Yau Ma Tei Police Station, located at 627 Canton Road, was constructed in 1922 in British Edwardian architectural style. Recognised as a Grade 2 historic building in 2009, it stands as one of Hong Kong’s few remaining pre‑war police stations.
Beyond its architectural interest, the police station has made notable appearances in a variety of films, such as Johnnie To’s “Election” (2005) starring Louis Koo and Simon Yam, as well as the hit comedy “Rush Hour 2” (2001) with Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker.
As part of the initiatives announced in May 2025 by the Working Group on Developing Tourist Hotspots, the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency (CCIDA) has transformed the ground floor of this historic site.
The exhibition Yau Ma Tei Police Station: A Cinematic Journey opened to the public on January 2, 2026. Curated by local film art designers, it pays tribute to Hong Kong’s classic police and crime film culture by faithfully recreating memorable scenes and film sets.

Aaron Kwok and Andy Lau in Cold War (2012), Chow Yun Fat in A Better Tomorrow (1986), Donnie Yen in Raging Fire (2021)
After checking in at a retro-style cinema entrance, visitors enter a time tunnel, showing the most exhilarating actions sequences and beloved characters from famous Hong Kong films. Expect to see superstars Andy Lau, Tony Leung chiu-wai, Aaron Kwok, Donnie Yen, Tony Leung Ka-fai, Nicholas Tse, and many more!
The main room meticulously recreates a Criminal Investigation Detective (CID) Office, based on the police stations of the 1970s and 1980s. Once you answer that call on the vintage phone, venture into the Surveillance Room, check out the Armoury, explore the Exhibit Office, and don’t forget to stop by the Identification Parade Room.
Look for the various clues and signs scattered throughout the room: visitors are expected to take an active part in the exhibition, by collecting stamps on their postcard, snapping photos with lifelike props, or figuring out who the suspects are in facial identification games. With the added touch of specially crafted sound and lighting effects, this is a unique cinematic experience.
Last, but not least, for the first time ever, the detention cells are now open to the public and have been transformed into unique photo zones. Enter the first cell and turn yourself into a policeman or a prisoner. In the second cell, step into the roles of Chow Yun Fat in The Killer, Andy Lau and Tony Leung Chi-wai in Infernal Affairs, or Jackie Chan in Police Story. Let the movie star within you shine, and get ready for some unforgettable snapshots!
