To encourage communal imagination and to nurture talents through the creation of multimedia and digital artworks, the Hong Kong property group Henderson Land organised in December 2022 the Realising Your Imagination Creative Competition.
Supported by organisations such as Hong Kong Arts Centre, Hong Kong Design Centre, Hong Kong Society of Illustrators, HART, HKAC Art School, City U or the University of Hong Kong, the competition was aimed at students but also open to all individuals, in two distinct categories.
After receiving hundreds of submissions, a judging panel of nine architects, city planners, and art and multimedia professionals have selected winners and awarded seventeen artists from both the Student and Open Groups.
The winners’ artworks are being showcased in a free public interactive exhibition held at H Queen’s from 3 to 14 June. With a fusion of videos, digital art, 270° immersive experience, Augmented Reality technology, and personalised NFT souvenirs, the exhibition highlights artworks depicting future communities, cityscapes and lifestyles, and inspired by the group’s contributions to the city.
The Champions of the Student category are a group of three passionate students, Louis Dong, Luna Chui and Oscar Leung, who have created A Letter from the Future, a short film inspired by the concept of a time capsule. Reading a letter sent by their future selves, they express their own interpretation of the urban development of Hong Kong.
We had the chance to discuss with the three students, who shared with us their background, aspirations and creative message.
Luna Chui and Oscar Leung are both students at the Academy of Film of Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), while their producer Louis Dong has already graduated from HKBU. Their aim is to stimulate reflection trough films and videos.
They decided to apply to the Realising Your Imagination Creative Competition by Henderson Land because they saw it as “a chance to show their dream of future and to provide hope for bewildered people”.
Their video A Letter from the Future tells the story of a student in architectural design who receives a letter, where the writer claims that she is herself in the future. Reading this letter from her future moves the student and helps her to find the strength to face her difficulties.
Enthusiastic about receiving the award from a panel of professionals, they are confident it will help their artistic and creative path, by “broadening their horizons and sense of perception”, and eventually help them to create more.
Their next adventure will be to enjoy their cultural trip in London and Paris offered by Henderson Land!
