In our #culturalportraits series, we intend to present the different players of the artistic and cultural scene, from artists and performers to events or exhibitions’ organisers, and to the ones behind the curtain, the women and men handling the logistic and the technique… We aim to highlight all the big and small tasks one does not even imagine when attending a performance or an exhibition.

To kick off the series, we met with multi-faceted artist Karena Lam. She shared with us her ideas on the role of the arts in our life, the challenges for an artist in time of pandemic and digital era, as well as her vision of Hong Kong’s uniqueness. And we also talked about her latest passion: making ceramics.

An artist with multiple talents, Karena Lam released in 2021 the third opus of her book series VOYAGES, available at TASCHEN bookstore in Tai Kwun.
