LEE MINGWEI: GUERNICA IN SAND

With this large-scale installation and performance, Lee Mingwei recreates Pablo Picasso’s iconic masterpiece Guernica on a massive scale with sand, inspired by indigenous and religious traditions with sand painting. It runs parallel to the Special Exhibition Picasso for Asia—A Conversation.

Hailed as the new face of classical guitar worldwide, Raphaël Feuillâtre fascinates audiences and critics alike with the depth of his interpretations and his dazzling virtuosity. Commissioned by Hong Kong Sinfonietta and written for star pianist Colleen Lee by leading local composer Charles Kwong, this piano concerto embodies the existential exploration of humankind, while serving as a tribute to the legendary jazz pianist Keith Jarrett.

The celebratory performance showcases three exciting works embracing scholarly arts, comedy and romance: Su Shi, a new production about the life of the Song dynasty poet and scholar; the troupe’s festive signature production Birthday Celebration by Five Daughters; and The New Butterfly Lovers, an inventive retelling of a beloved romantic folktale.

ARTS IN THE CITY: FLOW WITH TAI PO

Artists Ho Yuen-leung, Miki Ho Yin-yi, Wallace Yiu Chun-wa and Chan Ting explore the stories of Tai Po through different art forms. Pop-up artworks are displayed at Tai Po Arts Centre and Kwong Fuk Bridge. The initiative also include a series of art workshops, performances, eco-art guided tours, oral history tours and cycling tours.
