Whether you’re a neophyte, an art lover or an experienced collector, the Affordable Art Fair is the ideal place to learn more about art and to refine your taste in a playful and accessible environment, as well as the opportunity to buy artworks without breaking the bank.
Affordable Art Fair Hong Kong will celebrate its 10th Anniversary at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from 18 to 21 May 2023. Continuing its dedicated support of the art ecosystem, the Fair will showcase thousands of contemporary artworks by 93 galleries from 15 countries and territories across Asia, Europe, Australia and America, including 20 new galleries hailing from Miami, Cyprus, South Korea, Hong Kong, etc.
The 10th edition of the Affordable Art Fair Hong Kong will present a diversity of interactive art programmes and projects. Among them, Young Talent Hong Kong, curated by HKwalls, will showcase the works of young and passionate emerging local artists. Special Projects will bring large-scale installations and art performances by Hong Kong-based artists paying homage to the city. And like every year, the Fair will also support Art Education, offering workshops and tours designed to help children and young people to develop their interest in art.
A tour down to memory lane
The Affordable Art Fair was created by Will Ramsay in 1999 in London with a simple yet unique concept: make art accessible to all, by connecting the public to galleries, artists and art collectives, and by showcasing contemporary artworks that anyone could afford. Since then, it has developed into 13 art fairs across 10 countries.
After co-founding ART HK (now known as Art Basel Hong Kong) in 2008, Ramsay launched the first Affordable Art Fair Hong Kong in 2013. In ten years, the Fair has welcomed almost 200,000 visitors and sold 502,000 artworks. From contemporary paintings, original prints, photographs and sculptures by established artists or rising talents, the Fair has always offered a piece of art for everyone’s taste and budget.
Despite the global pandemic and travel restrictions between 2019 and 2022, the Fair was able to transform the challenge into opportunity by focusing on local artists and galleries, and witnessed an increasing art-loving crowd of visitors.
It is also worth pointing out that the Fair in Hong Kong is 100% female-led.
