EVENT DESCRIPTION
Organised by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC), “Youth Arts Week”, a signature event of the 17th Arts Ambassadors-in-School Scheme (AAiSS), will take place from 25 July to 17 August.
To enlighten this summer, “Youth Arts Week”, themed “Connection x Innovation” this year, presents an array of fabulous arts activities including arts workshops, theatre performances and thematic exhibitions. Arts ambassadors will showcase their artistic achievements and share the joy of artistic creation with the general public. Alumni of the AAiSS will also take part in various formats to share and exchange with their juniors, embodying the spirit of passing on the torch.
Arts Bazaar
The Arts Bazaar will be held from 25 to 27 July as the opening programme of the “Youth Arts Week”. Eight AAiSS alumni will showcase their unique craftworks (including metal bookmarks, glass ornaments, paper art, oil pastel paintings, non-firing ceramics, etc) at the Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre (JCCAC) in Shek Kip Mei. They will also host workshops on-site where participants can create their own handicrafts and exchange techniques and insights of artistic creation with the alumni. There will also be an interactive area where the public, by simply following the AAiSS social media platforms, can select various bead materials to design and make his or her own personalised phone strap — a special souvenir to take home.
Thematic Exhibitions
From 2 to 17 August, “Youth Arts Week” will present two thematic exhibitions at HKADC’s SHOWCASE and the H6 CONET community space in Central respectively. The exhibition “My Breath Diary”, curated by local arts technology troupe JAM ISLAND THEATRE, will transform the SHOWCASE into an interactive storytelling space that combines art, technology and multi-sensory experiences. During the exhibition, interactive theatrical performances featuring arts ambassadors as actors will guide visitors through the colourful world.
The exhibition “In Between Communities: Zine, Neon Light and Calligraphy”, held at H6 CONET community space, features arts ambassadors’ creations under the guidance of artist Lam Kin-choi and alumni ambassadors cum artists Willam Ho and Polly Chan. Through community-themed zines, Chinese calligraphy and cold-light neon signboards, the arts ambassadors reinterpret familiarised urban spaces from diverse perspectives.
