Yat-sen Musical

2 March 2023 - 5 March 2023

$280 – $580

EVENT DESCRIPTION

An original Cantonese musical four years in the making, from a stellar creative team and outstanding young cast, looks back on Sun Yat-sen’s fiery and turbulent youth

He is known by many names and titles, but the world knows him best simply as Sun Yat-sen.

The man born Sun Wen, who received a Western education in colonial Hong Kong, believed that only continuous reformation could lead to progress, and improve the lives of his countrymen. So he changed his name and then proceeded to work on changing the world.

Now, the original Cantonese-language musical Yat-sen vividly brings to the HKAF stage the volatile early life of the idealistic young student who became an important historical figure.

Sun experienced friendship and betrayal, recognition and misunderstanding. He failed countless times, but endured humiliation and persevered.

The musical brings together some of the most illustrious names in Hong Kong film and theatre: composer Peter Kam, director Tang Wai-kit, screenwriter Sunny Chan and lyricist Chris Shum, along with an energetic ensemble of young performers.

If you are a fan of musicals or have an interest in modern Chinese history, you’ll be enthralled by this human portrait of one man’s quest and his struggle for a better world.
