Hong Kong Arts Centre takes pride in presenting Women Direct. Korean Indies! – a Korean Women Independent Film Series. Our acclaimed moving image programme will be held at the Louis Koo Cinema of the Hong Kong Arts Centre, running from 29 June to 13 August 2023. This exclusive series features the outstanding works of Korean women indies. Tickets are available at popticket.hk starting today.

In collaboration with the Seoul Independent Film Festival, this programme delivers the finest in Korean women’s independent cinema! Selected fiction and documentary features address personal and societal issues through the perspectives of women, spanning various genres. Themes such as forbidden love, leaked intimate images, workplace struggles, motherhood, and body image are all up for exploration.

Our opening film, Hommage, directed by Shin Su-won, has been selected to pay tribute to the work of women directors. This film powerfully portrays the emotions and experiences of a female director. Shin has incorporated her own experiences into the creation of the storyline, shedding light on the challenges faced by women directors in male-dominated South Korean society. The main character embarks on a journey to reexamine her past, encountering veteran filmmakers who offer valuable insights into life and art, ultimately questioning the meaning of film and life itself.

The opening film will be screened on 29 June, and Shin has confirmed her virtual attendance at the after-screening talk. Hong Kong Arts Centre is pleased to announce that all screenings will be accompanied by virtual after-screening talks with their respective directors, providing an interactive platform for both filmmakers and audiences.
