29 March - 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

$100 – $180

EVENT DESCRIPTION

No Limits 2025 closes with a classical performance showcasing the skills of two musicians with close ties to the UK. On stage together for the first time, accomplished young pianist Anson Tang and acclaimed British flautist and composer Ruth Montgomery perform a selection of works from Mozart to the present.

The concert opens with the light tones of Mozart’s Andante in C major, K315, Suite Antique by Sir John Rutter – a true pas de deux between flute and piano with melodies and harmonies shared between both instruments – and flute solo on Arthur Honeggar’s haunting Danse de la chèvre. These are followed by American composer Amy Beach’s Ballade, a textured, complex, romantic work for solo piano that showcases Tang’s masterful skills.

The second half of the performance introduces two adventurous, evocative pieces for piano and flute by contemporary British composer Ian Clarke: Sunstreams – Montgomery’s favourite work to perform – and Sunday Morning. Bringing the recital to a close are Fauré’s Pavane, Op 50, and Chopin’s elegant and upbeat Variations on a Theme by Rossini.

Ruth Montgomery is a Clore Leadership Fellow and a winner of the Francesca Hanley inspirat ion award. She has performed as a soloist with some of the world’s major orchestras, including the Royal Philharmonic in London and the Russian National Orchestra in Moscow and St Petersburg. Hong Kong-born Tang studied at the Royal College of Music in London, and has performed with the Hong Kong Philharmonic and collaborated with artists such as Midori Gotō, Piers Lane, Artur Pizzaro, Nancy Loo and Colleen Lee.

No Limits is co-presented by the Hong Kong Arts Festival and The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust.
