12 September - 29 November

EVENT DESCRIPTION

Presented by the Hong Kong Design Centre (HKDC), Urban Yarns will be held from 12 September to 29 November at The Square in the DX design hub. The exhibition invites visitors to explore the evolving identity of Hong Kong through the intertwined lenses of design, culture, and architecture — brought to life through the tactile medium of yarn.

Building on the creative momentum of recent cultural initiatives, Urban Yarns aims to deepen the public’s connection to their local heritage. By reinterpreting traditional techniques and everyday textures through contemporary design, the exhibition draws on the legacy of Hong Kong’s once-thriving textile industry to probe the city’s transformation. Visitors to the exhibition are encouraged to rediscover the inspiration that can be found in the everyday, and take part as co-creators in the city’s unfolding narrative.

Featuring interactive installations, community-driven art, and textile innovations, Urban Yarns weaves together past and present, uniting traditional knitting practices with contemporary techniques to fashion a shared vision of the future.
