EVENT DESCRIPTION

Touch Gallery is thrilled to announce a group exhibition with five exceptional contemporary artists: Okumura Akifumi, Grace Mak, Steven Tang, Lin Hao-Bai and Wang Hao-Zhun. These artists from Japan, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, each with a unique artistic style, respond to the same eternal question: In a world where technology can replicate reality, for an artist, what is the meaning of “truth”?

In Okumura Akifumi’s works, traditional Japanese painting techniques capture the relationship between animals, humans and nature. Lin Hao-Bai’s contemplations of urban light and shadow beautifully depict architecture and still life. Wang Hao-Zhun’s paintings of Hong Kong dollars reveal a deeper critique on money and culture. Hong Kong artist Steven Tang pushes the limits of colored pencils, elevating humble food with hyperrealistic drawings. Grace Mak, meanwhile, captures objects with a microscopic precision, blurring reality and fiction.

ABOUT THE ARTIST / ORGANISER

Okumura Akifumi (b. 1972, Gifu, Japan), a graduate of Gifu University and Fukui University of Technology, is known for his animal-themed artworks exhibited in Japan and South Korea. His work has earned cultural awards from Gifu Prefecture and is held in collections like the Gifu Prefectural Museum of Art.

Grace Mak merges economics with art, using hyperrealistic oil paintings to blur truth and fiction, inviting reflection on societal and individual dynamics.

Steven Tang (b. 1999) is a self-taught artist who was born and raised in Hong Kong. With wooden color pencils as his medium of choice, Tang creates works depicting local Hong Kong cuisine, garnering widespread attention and becoming a favourite of many local art enthusiasts and collectors.

Lin Hao-Bai (b.1983, Taipei) pursued doctoral studies at NTNU's Department of Fine Arts in 2014. Renowned for realistic oil paintings, his "Still Life" series evokes poetic serenity while "Urban Landscapes" reinterpret cities through light. Lin has received numerous awards, including the Chimei Arts Award (2012, 2014), and National Art Exhibition (2015). His works are included in many collections, including the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, and New Taipei City Cultural Center.

Wang Hao-Zhun (b. 1983) graduated from NTNU's Fine Arts Institute, winning the Federal Art Newcomer Award (2009) and Taiwan Art Award First Prize (2010). His works use monetary imagery to explore materialistic desires, creating thought-provoking metaphorical scenarios.
