EVENT DESCRIPTION
On 21 December 2024 at 2:30pm and 5:00pm, Hong Kong audiences will be able to immerse themselves in the Christmas spirit as City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong performs the enchanting scores to The Snowman & The Bear with the animated films on the big screen. Conducted by Philippe Forget, the concert will feature engaging storytelling by guest hosts Debra Jones and Christopher Price and solo singing by Hong Kong young talents and professional vocalists Gabriel Ma (tenor) and Alan Tsang (baritone). A truly joyous and festive atmosphere will fill the Sha Tin Town Hall Auditorium inspired by memorable melodies, touching songs, heartwarming stories and delightful Christmas animations.
The Snowman and The Bear are two Christmas stories by Raymond Briggs set to visually stunning animated images and beautiful music by Howard Blake. The Snowman features the hit song Walking in the Air and takes place on Christmas Eve when a young boy’s snowman comes to life and befriends the boy, taking him on an enchanting journey over snow-capped mountains. This captivating theme song will be sung by boy soloists Oliver Lee (aged 12) from Canadian International School of Hong Kong (2:30pm) and Howie Lai (aged 10) from Hong Kong University Graduates Associate Primary School (5:00pm). The Bear is a story about a young girl named Tilly who accidentally drops her teddy bear into the polar bear’s pit on a visit to the zoo. On the same night, she awakens to find a large-sized polar bear standing in her bedroom. The polar bear returns her beloved teddy bear and then takes her on a fantastical bear-ride through the crisp wintertime night. The song composed for the film, Somewhere a Star Shines, will be performed by girl soloists Kyla Ngai (aged 9) from Diocesan Girls’ Junior School (2:30pm) and Olivia Hyde (aged 12) from West Island School (5:00pm).
Narrated in English and lasting 80 minutes with a 15-minute intermission. Suitable for all ages aged three and above.
