EVENT DESCRIPTION
Opera Hong Kong will present a new production of Mozart’s classic opera The Magic Flute from May 15 to 18, 2025, at the Grand Theatre, Hong Kong Cultural Centre. Director Shuang Zou has reinterpreted the two-act opera in a new light, using a modern stage setting and costumes by renowned designer Dan Potra. The production will take audiences on an imaginative and magical musical journey.
Mozart’s last work, The Magic Flute, became a classic after its premiere in 1791 and is still loved by audiences around the world. In this new production, Opera Hong Kong brings the story to life in a modern city, giving the classic a new charm. Beginning at an everyday MTR station, the audience will follow the characters on a fantastical journey of love and truth as they travel between reality and dreams.
The production brings together international artists and troupes, as well as local singers. Opera Hong Kong Orchestra, Opera Hong Kong Chorus, and Opera Hong Kong Children Chorus will also fully support it, creating an unprecedented audio-visual feast.
