Acclaimed director Simon Stone and his stellar Korean cast bring striking originality to Chekhov’s classic, relocating The Cherry Orchard of old Russia to modern-day Korea. Doyoung Song, a chaebol heiress, returns from abroad to a free and defiant Seoul. Above all, her family business is in peril, threatening the future of her mansion. As the Songs grapple with their status and heritage in a rapidly changing world, quiet tensions unfold within their glass-walled home, and the family collapses into a poignant, beautiful mess.

Winner of the Olivier Award and Nestroy Theatre Prize, Stone is widely regarded as one of the most visionary theatre-makers today. Themes of conflicts between entrenched elites and emerging class, central to contemporary Korean cinema, are mirrored in Stone’s characters, whose tragic realities are told through comedic lines. Starring Cannes Best Actress Doyeon Jeon and Squid Game’s Haesoo Park, The Cherry Orchard saw all 30 performances of its Seoul première sold out amid soaring demand. The original cast is now on a world tour with Hong Kong as the first stop — a must see for local audiences!
