EVENT DESCRIPTION

SurrealHK, a surrealism photographer from Hong Kong, held a solo exhibition in 13a New Street Art Gallery for the second time. The theme of this exhibition is “The Collective Surreal Memory by SURREALHK Solo Exhibition”, which will be staged from 2nd December to 18th December, bringing 33 artworks.

Apart from the most popular surrealism photography works,SurrealHK also brought new surprises to fans, by adding Hong Kong’s iconic neon elements to the works. Let the brand-new concept be integrated into the graphic art, and make the surrealism sublimate to another level. In addition, SurrealHK collaborated with students from the BA (Hons) in Interactive Media of Hong Kong Polytechnic University to create five three-dimensional Fotomo creations with different styles.

SurrealHK takes the collective memory of Hong Kong people as the theme this time, and the pet appear vividly in different corners of Hong Kong, which makes the work slightly permeated with a lovely atmosphere. The author hopes to bring a little joy and positive energy to everyone through the exhibition in this post epidemic era. At the same time, we also want to use the camera to retain some familiar things at the moment of pressing the shutter, such as Jumbo Floating Restaurant, which was once one of the landmarks of Hong Kong, that we didn’t have time to say goodbye to it. SurrealHK once again brought it to everyone’s eyes and left behind good memories.

Trams, minibus, subway stations, temple streets, and the huge buildings in Quarry Bay, commonly known as the “Monster Building”, have been rotating with the great wheel of the times in Hong Kong from the things we are most familiar with everyday to the back. Like Hong Kong people of different ages, they have witnessed the ups and downs of Hong Kong. This time they will also appear in SurrealHK’s works, so that everyone can find a familiar and warm resonance in the appreciation of the works. Hong Kong’s environment and all aspects are changing. The reality may make you feel frustrated many times. There are also many precious things that have disappeared or are slowly entering the darkness silently.

The absurd things keep happening, SurrealHK hopes that you can face all things with an optimistic attitude, live in the moment, and do more things that can make you happy. The time of life is very short, no matter if you are in a good mood or a bad mood, you must continue to live, so why not choose to face everything with a cheerful attitude? Hong Kong is also known as the Pearl of the Orient. In the last century, colorful neon billboards were everywhere in the downtown market. With the progress of science and technology, this product of the era full of sense of the times was gradually eliminated. However, neon lights still play a very important role in the minds of the public. SurrealHK has brought them into its own works, making a variety of different types of collective memories bloom at the same time.
