EVENT DESCRIPTION

This winter, Sunsmith is pleased to invite Hong Kong Goldsmith artist Hugo Yeung to be the guest artist in residence for its Special Winter Exhibition and Workshop, “Silver Geometry”, which is currently on view until 4 February 2024.

In the exhibition, Hugo presents his new collection ‘Trail of Ornament,’ which showcases contemporary jewellery that combines traditional goldsmith techniques with minimalist geometric design language. He will also lead the silver jewellery workshop that embraces the concept of minimalistic aesthetics. Titled “Silver One to Five”, participants will start with creating a hammered round ring using basic goldsmith techniques, and progressively being guided into creating various other types of jewellery, including rings, bracelets, earrings, and more. The workshop combines creativity and foundational craftsmanship, allowing participants to add textures and patterns to metals using everyday tools and create three-dimensional jewellery.

About the Workshop “Silver One to Five”
The workshop is divided into two parts. After completing the first session of the foundational course, participants can freely join in creating the five different types of jewellery.

As a celebrated silversmith and experienced educator in the field of design, Hugo’s work crosses between contemporary studio jewellery and large scale domestic and sculptural-like objects, producing structures defined by a clear aesthetic. His individual interpretation of these objects emphasizes the beauty of form, which is developed through balancing the mathematic process with visual value. The beauty of the objects is created by the simplicity of the lines, geometric form, and structure, creating a sense of relaxation and harmony.
