FreeEVENT DESCRIPTION
The contemporary art-toy artist from Japan, Shinichiro “AJ” Kato (Art Junkie/ Shinichiro Kato), made his first painting oriented exhibition debut at 13a New Street Art Gallery. In the past few years, his works have been loved by people, and many exhibitions have been held in Japan and abroad. In 2019, it will even break out of Asia and focus on the United States. In August 2019, Mr. Shinichiro Kato, RAMPAGE TOYS, DEVILROBOTS, and ukyDaydreamer held a group exhibition at the “Clutter Gallery” in New York. In September of the same year, he held a solo exhibition at LA “Q POP GALLERY”.
Even though he was affected by the epidemic in the past two years, his exhibition schedule has not been interrupted. It is like a powerful whirlwind on display all over Japan. In March 2021, a solo exhibition was held at the Ginza Gallery “Shin”. On the first day, there was a long line of enthusiastic fans in front of the first bus to celebrate, and it ended with great success. Riding this powerful “AJ” whirlwind to Hong Kong, this time will set off another bigger wave at 13a New Street Art Gallery.
In recent years, there have been more and more paintings in Art Junkie’s works, and gradually tends to the direction of artistic development. The current trend is that toys and art are inseparable. We noticed that “AJ”‘s paintings have his personal characteristics and playfulness, which are very suitable for young art collectors. 13A New Street Art Gallery hopes to promote Art Junkie into the field of art through exhibition opportunities, let more people know about his painting skills, and the collection value of his hand-painted art toys will also be greatly increased. Art Junkie is endowed with potential and outstanding artistic sense. It is worthy of being seen by more people. It should be discovered to go further on the road of art and attract more art collectors to collect his works.
Art Junkie himself created several cartoon characters, some of which have three eyes or three heads. This is a special setting of AJ’s character appearance. For example, Calm Cat is a kitten with three big eyes with different dreamy colors. Kumara is a cute bear who also has three eyes. Although it has a pretentious appearance, its round appearance and close to one-to-one body ratio. The strong contrast between the appearance and the expression makes him look more contrasting, and makes people fall into his funny charm accidentally. King Pacara is an unusual alpaca, the alpaca character he created not only has three heads, but also has wings. It looks like a magical beast, like the flying unicorn that we loved very much when we were young. Because of the creation of a range of beloved characters, every time it will be sold out immediately when it goes on sale. His personal creative characteristics can be said to be a deep foundation in his artistic paintings.
This exhibition is the first time Art Junkie uses paintings as the main theme of the exhibition. Of course, he can’t reserve the toy design he is keen on. This time AJ will hand-paint one-off soft vinyl toys, and each toy is limited to one in the world, which has a very high collection value. Not only are his art toys unique in limited quantities in the world, but it is also worth noting that AJ uses skateboard deck as his creative medium for the first time, all of which are sold in limited quantities.
