EVENT DESCRIPTION
Hong Kong’s first mahjong street art exhibition will take place on Shin Hing Street from 29 to 31 May.
Mr. Mahjong has always been passionate about connecting mahjong, art, and the community. The exhibition features over 15 art pieces created with more than 100 specially designed mahjong tiles with theme of Shin (善) and Hing (慶), meaning kindness and celebration. Hidden installations are placed around street corners to be discovered.
Shin Hing Street has long been known for its friendly atmosphere and charming neighbourhood vibe, making it a perfect place to relax and unwind. The magic of the street is created by its diverse range of shops. From freshly brewed coffee and perfectly crafted cocktails, to fine wines, whisky, and delicious dining places from traditional Italian cuisine, creative Japanese dishes, to even highly specialized lamb delicacies.
This summer, Mr. Mahjong, an artist renowned for using mahjong as artistic medium, brings the neighbourhood together by transforming the entire street into a pop‑up art gallery. Shin Hing Street gathers people. So does Mahjong.
In line with the theme of Shin (善), kindness, the exhibition also serves as a charitable event that brings the community together to support local animal NGOs in Hong Kong. Donations will be made by Mr. Mahjong, with event exposure directly translating into contributions (for example, HKD $10 donated for every Instagram Story posted and with @mmj_hk tagged). Every share helps grow the donation.

ABOUT THE ARTIST / ORGANISER
Mr. Mahjong is a Hong Kong based introvert artist uses mahjong as his creative medium. He is dedicated to exploring the relationship between “tradition” and “innovation” within mahjong culture. While paying homage to the heritage and aesthetics of traditional mahjong, he thoughtfully incorporates diverse cultural elements, reimagining mahjong from a fresh and playful perspective to create works that are both highly creative and instantly recognizable. Drawing inspiration from a wide range of cultural fields, including Cantonese language, film, music, theatre, food culture, and traditional festivals, Mr. Mahjong seeks not only to promote the appreciation of traditional mahjong culture, but also to showcase Hong Kong’s rich and distinctive cultural landscape through his work. He views mahjong as a bridge that connects different cultural expressions and communities. His creations have received widespread recognition from international brands, public figures, and the art community. Notable collaborations include the design of Hang Seng Bank’s first locally inspired mahjong set, as well as bespoke mahjong creations for brands such as GUCCI, Van Cleef & Arpels, Red Bull, and Yohji Yamamoto. Mr. Mahjong’s works have also been featured on HOY TV and ViuTV, and exhibited at cultural and artistic venues including Opera Gallery, Soho House, and SCMP.Details
