Roberto Davolio: Physis Glich – Reclaiming the Ineffable

Novalis Art Design is pleased to present “PHYSIS GLITCH – Reclaiming the Ineffable,” an exhibition by Italian artist Roberto Davolio, supported by the Consulate General of Italy in Hong Kong and the Italian Cultural Institute in Hong Kong. Curated by Federica Viola, this exhibition explores the intersection of technology and artistic sensitivity, challenging our perception of reality in the digital age.

Davolio’s captivating images, infused with vibrant colors and geometric forms, invite viewers to engage all their senses.  He uses an innovative device, “Hermes,” to interact directly with the camera’s lens, projecting colors and shapes onto the subject. This process disrupts pre-programmed algorithms, creating unforeseen visual possibilities and revealing hidden dimensions of reality.  The resulting photographs are not mere representations but reinterpretations, prompting contemplation and a deeper understanding of our connection to the world around us.

“PHYSIS GLITCH” draws inspiration from Eastern artistic traditions, emphasizing contemplation, emptiness, and harmony. Davolio’s work resonates with the viewer on an emotional and spiritual level, inviting intuition to transcend the limits of rationality.  In a world saturated with digitally manipulated images, Davolio’s work offers a unique perspective, questioning how we perceive reality and how technology can be used to expand, rather than distort, our understanding.  Join us for this thought-provoking exhibition and experience a new vision of the real.

ABOUT THE ARTIST / ORGANISER

Born in Italy, Roberto Davolio began his international career immediately after completing his architectural studies in Venice. Driven by curiosity and ambition, he left the Bel Paese to become a true citizen of the world, living in cities such as London, New York, Berlin, Barcelona, Los Angeles, Beijing, until settling in his city of choice, Hong Kong.

His career has developed by intertwining architectural expertise with computer skills, cultivated through his deep passion for the digital world. Photography, his faithful life companion, became the tool through which he captured his travel experiences and interactions with such diverse cultures and it is precisely in this medium that he is finding answers to his greatest questions.
