EVENT DESCRIPTION
We create order and chaos in nature.
Pruning plants can be seen as an act of dominance or kindness by humans towards nature, or as an act of destruction. Human beings’ desire to control the ‘Nature’ is based on our perception of ‘Beauty’, but do we truly understand ‘Plants’ and do we care the will of the nature?
Alleging ourselves the ‘Gardeners’, assuming ourselves the masters of the laws of nature, human beings neglect the autonomy of nature, denying its ability to repair and reproduce. Nature’s growth has been distorted and its image has been manipulated to fit in human aesthetics. Such manipulation can be interpreted as for the good of the nature, but meanwhile taking advantage of its beauty to restructure and suit one’s own aesthetics. Picking the flowers, squeezing out all the finest, and extracting all the essence, the defloration is selfish and greedy.
Yrellag Gallery present “Rearrange, Reconstruct, Reform”, a solo exhibition by Yau Wing Leung Thomas. Dismantling and demolition are taken as a starting point, to redress the nature-to-human relationship and human-to-human relationship.
