EVENT DESCRIPTION

In recent years, summer’s heatwave has already arrived with spring. We’ve all felt the soaring temperatures, but what does it mean for our planet? Renowned Hong Kong artist Brian Tilbrook addresses environmental and geopolitical issues in his works Global Warming and Peace at Risk. These semi-abstract paintings employ mixed media and found items—such as acrylic paint, marker and dried sea fern—to draw attention to how climate change is impacting our personal health and the global environment, as well as the economy. Rising global temperatures, warming of the oceans, shrinking ice sheets, decreasing snow cover, rising sea levels, ocean acidification and extreme events such as intense rainfall are only a few of the consequences of climate change.

To complement the exhibition Past and Present: Paintings by Brian Tilbrook, and in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goal 13 (climate action) of the United Nations, the University Museum and Art Gallery (UMAG) invites you to design a poster to raise awareness of climate change and to lead a low carbon lifestyle. The winning posters will be displayed on UMAG’s digital screen at the entrance of the Fung Ping Shan Building! As a global citizen, join us and raise your voice for the planet!

The poster should be created with any media and found objects, and must be submitted digitally through Instagram. Remember to follow us on Instagram (@umag_hku), tag the post @umag_hku, #Climate_UMAG, #sdg13 and your category (#Primary /#Secondary /#Public)! We can’t wait to see your work!

Before taking part in the Racing Climate Change poster design competition, don’t forget to visit our digital exhibition at https://www.virtual.umag.hku.hk/past-and-present.
