Prudence Mak: Growing up in a Heartbeat

Renowned Hong Kong artist Prudence Mak will present her solo exhibition, “Growing up in a Heartbeat”, from 1 to 14 July 2022 at V Gallery, VESSEL 02, 90 Hoi Bun Road, Kwun Tong. Over 100 works will be showcased to mark the growth process of Prudence’s artistic journey.

This is the second solo exhibition curated by the artist herself to review the 20-year journey of artistic creation. With paintbrushes and canvases, Prudence recorded her childhood in a wooden hut at Ma Hang Village in Stanley, moved to a secondary school in the downtown when she grew up, and then studied fine art in Canada. With her works, Prudence also pays tribute to the masters who have inspired her along the artistic path, including Louise Bourgeois and her iconic giant spider, Yayoi Kusama the “Polka Dot Pumpkin”, Pablo Picasso and Jean Cocteau, and so on.

Prudence attempts to interact with viewers through numerous tiny windows in various sizes and heights on the walls of the exhibition hall. Viewers can have a glimpse of the dreamy life imagined by the artist, discover paintings hidden in different angles as well as the artist’s attitude to life.

ABOUT THE ARTIST / ORGANISER

Prudence Mak was born in Hong Kong. She obtained her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Canada. In 2008, she won the Hong Kong Young Design Talent Award Scholarship and studied a master's program at Central Saint Martins in London to. In 2010, she was selected as one of the top ten outstanding designers in Hong Kong. In 2012, she was the awardee of the “Ten Outstanding Young Persons Selection” in Hong Kong.
