EVENT DESCRIPTION
Local artist Prudence Mak, founder and creative director of the Hong Kong renowned brand Chocolate Rain, will hold her first solo exhibition “Flow” after the post-pandemic restoration from 21st to 26th June at the Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre. The exhibition will showcase various works, including large-scale collage paintings conceptualized with myriad fabrics, the latest “Fatina” three-dimensional sculptural installation, and the popular “Wandering Clouds” series, which will once again captivate the audience.
Prudence Mak’s solo art exhibition marks her first event held after the pandemic situation has largely returned to normalcy. The exhibition revolves around the theme “Flow,” representing a state of mind known as “flow” – a joyful mentality. Prudence hopes that everyone can explore this state of mind with an original intention, discover true happiness, and find the path leading to happiness.
In this exhibition, Prudence employs the concept of myriad fabrics for the first time, presenting over a thousand pieces of artwork in the form of large-scale collage paintings to the public. Each piece depicts the iconic character “Fatina,” created by Prudence, in classic poses that convey the act of dreaming with closed eyes and the heartfelt experience of joy and happiness. Prudence states that the inspiration for the myriad fabric collage paintings comes from the resilience she witnessed in her mother’s sewing during her childhood. She aims to remind everyone to maintain their original intentions, uphold the mindset and dreams they had from the beginning, and bravely pursue their dreams regardless of the challenges they may face.
In addition to the large-scale myriad fabric collage paintings, Prudence introduces a brand-new installation of “Fatina” three-dimensional sculptures, featuring various shapes such as dinosaurs, mushrooms, donuts, and wandering clouds. Furthermore, due to the immense popularity of the “Wandering Clouds” series after its exhibition at the Oil Street Art Space, a selection of twenty acrylic canvas works from the series will be showcased in this solo exhibition, allowing the public to revisit the highlights. The “Wandering Clouds” series focuses on the landmarks and buildings in the Eastern District of Hong Kong Island, including the Queen’s Theatre, the King Wah Signboard, and the North Point Swimming Shed. With Fatina’s imaginative touch, the series vividly presents the vitality of each scene and object in the Eastern District.
