EVENT DESCRIPTION
Hong Kong Open Printshop (HKOP) will celebrate its 25th anniversary next year. Accompanying this significant milestone, we are expanding our current space and developing “HKOP Print Art Contemporary” – a collection of experience-centred spaces encompassing community cultural activities, thematic exhibitions, academic research, and professional training, fostering exchanges and collaborations between local and international art and cultural organisations while preserving Hong Kong’s print art cultural heritage.
We are delighted to invite everyone to “Prologue: HKOP Print Art Contemporary Fundraising Exhibition”, where we will share our vision for future development. To support local creativity and preserve print art culture, we sincerely appreciate various forms of support, such as purchasing limited edition fine prints, making donations, or volunteering.
This exhibition will feature two main components: a retrospective showcasing HKOP’s remarkable 24-year journey and a curated exhibition of recent works by established artists, including LEE Mei-kuen, CHEUNG Chung-chu, and FUNG Ho-yin, as well as a group of emerging printmakers.
As one of the highlights at HKOP, the HKOP Award in Printmaking and the HKOP Fine Print Award serve as nurturing grounds for emerging talents. Since 2018, we have recognised 16 outstanding awardees, who have made significant progress, each with their unique artistic styles. For instance, artists like LAM Lok-san, LAM King-ting, LAU Ka-chun, and LAI Siu-wai employ relief woodcut techniques, yet their works showcase distinct artistic expressions. Similarly, WONG Ho-ching, CHEUNG Tsz-ki, LAU Hong-lam, HUI Kei-wing, CHAN Chi-yan, and CHAN Hiu-ying explore the realm of intaglio prints through techniques such as multicoloured etching, mezzotint, aquatint, and photo-etching. Together with HO Sheung-yan’s screen prints, their works fully demonstrate the talented vibrancy in the local contemporary printmaking.
The anticipated HKOP Print Art Contemporary is scheduled to open in 2025 and will be located at PMQ in Central and the Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre (JCCAC) in Shek Kip Mei.
The three-day “Prologue: HKOP Print Art Contemporary Fundraising Exhibition” will be held from 22nd March to 24th March at PMQ in Central. Your generous support is crucial to our ongoing efforts in nurturing emerging talents, promoting creative expression, and advancing research and conservation initiatives of local print art culture.
In addition to the print art exhibition, demonstrations, guided tours, and letterpress printing experiences, the fundraising exhibition will also feature jazz and music performances. We are excited to share our vision for the new space of HKOP Print Art Contemporary and our future development plans with all participants.
